The Great Pumpkin Experience
This science and math activity has been one of my favorites every year and side note - I got it from my Dad who also taught upper grade!! But you can definitely adjust this for lower grades. Most students have no idea that pumpkins will float!!
My students did these activities at stations around the room. Most of the measuring and counting they can do on their own/with a classmate, so I definitely recommend stationing yourself at the "see if it will float" station - we all know its not a good idea to leave students unsupervised with a bucket of water! I used a big bucket, filled it halfway with water, and put that station just outside the door so we could keep the outcome a mystery. They were really good at keeping the results hidden so others could enjoy the experience.
A parent note is included and both documents are editable.
